Study Session

A field trip to view the progress on the restoration of the ground and vegetation at the now-closed Elk Meadow Dog Off-Leash Park.  Much of the area has naturally revegetated, although many areas were heavy in invasive grasses.  These are being controlled.  The edges of the stream channel are being recontoured to reduce erosion from water coming through culverts under Stagecoach Road.

Regular Session

Joy Lucisano and Steve Snyder reviewed the policies relating to non-Open Space uses in the parks.  These include commercial uses and large group gatherings.  The policies focus on ensuring non-interference with individuals’ passive use of the park.

Nancy York reported on the Vision to Action Framework progress; i.e. the planning process for the next five years.  This included an overview, the public engagement plan, the Advisory Committee participation, milestones completed, and future milestones.

Gina Barton presented an update of the 2017 Master Plan for Beaver Ranch Park.  The plan now is being used to define the roles of Open Space and the Beaver Ranch Community, Inc. as   regards the maintenance and operation of the park.

Director Tom Hoby reported that the Jeffco Outdoor Adventure Club (a hiking and outdoor activity program for youth in Foster Care) received the Colorado Open Space Alliance’s Blue Gramma Award for Outstanding Achievement in Community Partnership and Collaboration.

On National Public Lands Day, 480 volunteers spent 2,529 hours cleaning up 10,300 pounds of waste along 12 miles of Clear Creek Canyon.
